News-  Team Member, Paul Menigoz, reports from Levi's GranFondo
"I went back up to Santa Rosa last weekend for this years Levis Granfondo.  What an awesome event.  They had 7500 entrants this year for the three distances, and all start together.  We camped right next to the festival (start/finish area), and were ready for the long course at 8am, and it was pretty heavy traffic for the first couple of hours. Even after 9 hours of riding I still had lots of company.  The conditions were way different than last year - instead of needing sunscreen and sunglasses, it was more like rain gear and cold weather wear (which I didn't bring).  The views weren't quite as impressive as the clear day we had for 2010, but even with the rougher conditions, this is one ride of tremendous beauty.  There were some unfortunate events due to wet roads and brakes and people crashing into others etc, and lots of flats and other mechanical problems, but not in my particular group. I guess the worst part was that I fell over once, but just got a minor scrape - I was standing up trying to crank up the last of one of the hills and torqued my chain off.  I'm still amazed at the support provided for the riders, from all the food and beverage,  to the course support and emergency personnel.  As for my performance, I finished in 9 hrs, 29 min, which was about 25 minutes faster than last year.  This is interesting, because my training was way inadequate.  I had hoped to actually ride up all the hills, but that didn't happen. I rode more than last year, but still had to hike up the steepest climbs.  My rolling time was real close to last time, so my improvement was from spending less time at the stops.  I'm planning to ride the slogranfondo on the 15th, and hope to see more K-team out there. (Thank you K new reporter, Paul)
