Kman reports - John McKewen, founder of the Nitty Gritty Dirtband, is going to perform June 6th at Castoro Cellers Winery. You do not want to miss it, he is incredible. He plays the banjo like Mr. Phelps swims, like Mr. Armstrong rides, like Mr. Bolt runs, actually he does it better than any of them! This will be a once in a lifetime show. It is a fund raiser for Escuela Del Rio, an adult facility for the mentally challenged. Our team has already raised $2000.00 for the event. I suggest that this event be part of the 5 or better challenge for 2009. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at Castoro Cellers web site or at K-Man Cycle and Run. Let's make it a night to be remembered!

Pam Nargie - fell (while she was carrying boxes) onto the pavement, right onto her right hip. A few days later, an x-ray showed a compressed fracture, in the femur, near the hip joint. She will be having surgery to have two screws installed to hold the fracture secure while it heals. She fell, on the same day that Lance Armstrong crashed. Heal up fast Pam! See you soon in the pool or on the bike.

Bike:

Wine 'N Bike - Martina and Kristie are interested in putting together a group of riders who would like to do a short (15-25) mile ride accompanied by several stops for wine tasting. We live in a fantastic area for it and friends and family (21 and over!) would be welcome. Anyone interested, please email Kristie at runingnurse@hotmail.com.

•Ride: Saturday, 04/04/09
- Let's check out the wildflowers on Shell Creek! Leave Kman at 8 am and head south on El Camino with the standard left detour past Paloma Park to Sandoval and back on El Camino to Santa Margarita, then continue on 58 all the way out to La Panza (23 miles) and then three more miles to Shell Creek where we go left and ride the 15 miles to Shandon where we stop for refreshments then return by way of 41. Choices abound as riders on the way out can turn early up 229, turn left on O'donovan or left on La Panza back to Creston. And on the way back from Shandon riders can head straight back on 41 to Cripple Creek or stop in Creston and head back on 229 or even long on O'donovan to 58 then up Huerohuero and down Las Pilitas.
Ride report from Steve La RIDING machine: TWO PR's
-->First 101 miles to Morro Bay in 4:55 (new PR for any century)
-->Next 95 miles to Finish in 5:30 or so... got tired. Total: around 10:25 (new PR) for Double
-->I rode solo for about 30 percent of the ride. There are alot of sguirely riders on this double so I tried to keep my distance unless they were smooth. Wade B finished a few minutes ahead of me. He was the smoothest rider to ride with so I stuck with him for a while and we took turns dropping each other around mile 150. I still thought 10 hours was doable at that point but resting was more desirable. I pulled friend Bob McMahon (55 years old) for many miles as he decided that I was stronger than him, then he left me with 60 miles to go and finished in 9:50, total dork, oh well this is his main race. Mike L and Dave Fischer were both volunteering so I got to yell profound words at them on occasion. I'm looking forward to Santa Cruz 400k April 11th.
