•Report from the 400K Riders
Steve writes:
Santa Cruz 400k ride (250 miles), 16 hours, 46 minutes. 2 flat tires, 2 wrong turns, lots of wind until it got dark, nice full moon after 8pm, friendly riding companions, Mexican food, Subway turkey sandwich yum, some slight pain and agony, monkey butt syndrome, lots of traffic signals, pot holes, camper trailers, all made for another true test of survival covering distances from Santa Cruz up to San Mateo county back to Santa Cruz then down to Greenfield and Back to Santa Cruz via G17 and local roads in the dark. Whew, glad I got that one over with. Louise finished only 2 hours back. Next is Santa Cruz 600k May 9th. Any takers? Yea, that's what I thought.
Louise adds:
Rosemary farm, Heather farm, Cactus farm, Pancakes with scrambled eggs and beans, Hot chocolate with Starbucks double shot, Bunny sugar cookie, two flats (not mine), speedometer may have stopped working but at least my socks matched my drink mix (pink), joy to finish in 18 hrs 47 minutes!

Kman reports - John McKewen, founder of the Nitty Gritty Dirtband, is going to perform June 6th at Castoro Cellers Winery. You do not want to miss it, he is incredible. He plays the banjo like Mr. Phelps swims, like Mr. Armstrong rides, like Mr. Bolt runs, actually he does it better than any of them! This will be a once in a lifetime show. It is a fund raiser for Escuela Del Rio, an adult facility for the mentally challenged. Our team has already raised $2000.00 for the event. I suggest that this event be part of the 5 or better challenge for 2009. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at Castoro Cellers web site or at K-Man Cycle and Run. Let's make it a night to be remembered!
