-->Bike:

•Saturday Ride(5/16) - Let’s head south to Santa Margarita. To make it simple we will take the left on 58 and ride, ride, ride til we reach La Panza (23 miles) where we will also go left to 41 (37 miles) to the Creston Store (39 miles) for refreshments. Then home by way of 229. A 60 ish mile
ride. There are options for shorter rides by going up 229 on the way out or turning left at O'Donovan so everyone is encouraged to show and ride!!

Kongratulations - to Louise Comar completing the 600 K in the brevet series and earning the Distinguished Brevet Medal for her finishing the series in "Excellent Standing".

•Wine 'N Bike - a great success -

Robyn Schmidt, Kristie Lahr, Penny Bennett & Martina Kingman met on Saturday in

Templeton. Wearing headbands that read, “Will Ride for Wine”, we headed out Vineyard Dr. and made our first stop at Opolo Vineyards. The tasting room people recognized Robyn and gave us special treatment. Our faves included Mountain Zinfandel and Sangiovese...but we only had one bottle (see photos in sidebar).

Next, we headed down Willow Creek Road to Red Soles. The driveway was a bit challenging, but the “banana fragranced” Chardonnay made us all feel better, and less challenged.

We then rode east to Summerwood Vineyard where we crashed a wedding party. Had it not been for the expensive tux rental, the groom would have left with us (riding on Robyn’s handlebars), into the sunset.

We look forward to more wine tasting outings and propose a new Team K-Man challenge to critique and try all of the fabulous wineries that our area offers.

June 6th - Kman reports - John McKewen, founder of the Nitty Gritty Dirtband, is going to perform June 6th at Castoro Cellers Winery. You do not want to miss it, he is incredible. He plays the banjo like Mr. Phelps swims, like Mr. Armstrong rides, like Mr. Bolt runs, actually he does it better than any of them! This will be a once in a lifetime show. It is a fund raiser for Escuela Del Rio, an adult facility for the mentally challenged. Our team has already raised $2000.00 for the event. I suggest that this event be part of the 5 or better challenge for 2009. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at Castoro Cellers web site or at K-Man Cycle and Run. Let's make it a night to be remembered!
