Louise Comar reports about the 400K(250 mile) Brevet if you think that folks would be interested as follows:
My overall time was 18 hr 45 minutes but my ride time was 16 hr 15min (avg 15.9)...I avged 19.3 for the first 50miles with the start group, thereafter riding most of the ride by myself with an avg of 16.3mph at the 200mi mark...also, I took some wrong turns and ended up riding 264 miles (instead of 240)!  I just spent way too much time at the checkpoints, eating, using the bathrooms and taking out and putting in my contacts!!  I did have an unsettling experience with some verbal and physical harassment while riding on my own at 11pmVacaville at 240miles (my speedometer) but I enjoyed the ride alot...I just had to spend some time cleaning the egg off my bike!! through

LaChaine Report: DEVIL Mountain DOUBLE

Go up and down hills all day, that was pretty much the idea for the day starting at 5:00am with about 150 other crazy bastards and a few bastardetts.  Really nice weather, could have been a little cooler on some hills but at least it was not a heat wave.  First 116 miles included Mt. Diablo climb and awesome downhill (cold at first), a bunch of little climbs and the long Mines road climb, about 11,000ft of climbing in the 8 hours it took me to get to that 116 mile lunch stop.  Then is was 18 more miles to the top of Mt Hamilton (only 4 miles are steep), what a grind that was with the bugs in my face at 3pm hottest part of the day, maybe 80 degrees.  Then about 17 miles of twisty downhill, hands getting kind of numb, legs getting lots of rest here coming back to life.  Mile 160, last major rest stop, mile 162 biggest hill of the day but felt good and climbed the 12% average Sierra Rd in 40 minutes which I was told was a good time, fastest times were around 30 minutes for the 3.7 mile hill.  I was a man possessed now riding the last 40 miles in 2:15 partly in the dark to finish my first Devil Mountain Double in 15:33 for the 207 miles and 19,000 ft climbing.  I am happy with the effort considering my lack of pep at the start of the ride when I forgot to do a caffeine drink at 4:00am.  I eventually took a caffeine GU after a couple of hours and my legs seemed to work better and better as the day went on, except for the hot hill sections.  My ride time was 14:13.
Unfortunately one guy doing his 51st double century passed away that day on the ride by heart attack or heart problem, so this year the ride didn't really have very many happy finishers since almost everyone knew him pretty well.
